Making Strides: Uniting in Pink to Inspire Hope
Central Park, on Sunday, October 15th, witnessed a breathtaking sea of pink as thousands of individuals donned pink outfits, ribbons, and unyielding determination to make a powerful statement.
The annual fellowship known as the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk took place, and it was nothing short of awe-inspiring. With around 40,000 participants joining hands for the 4-mile walk, Central Park was transformed into a beacon of hope, resilience, and unity. This event, with its impressive count of walkers, stands as one of the
most impactful and extensive walks across the nation. Roadway Moving was there, as Official Moving and Storage partner of the event, to walk along with survivors and thrivers and to state aloud “everybody deserves to live!”.
In the last decade alone, the Central Park Walk has raised an astounding $15 million for patient services, research, and advocacy. The numbers are more than just statistics; they represent the collective effort of a community that refuses to let breast cancer win. Survivors at the event emphasized the critical importance of early detection, urging everyone to prioritize regular mammograms.
More Than 40,000 Walkes in Central Park
This year marked the 30th annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign. This milestone event,
organized by the American Cancer Society, aimed not only to raise awareness but also to educate and raise funds in the ongoing battle against breast cancer, which is the second most common cancer in women. Encouragingly, between 1989 and 2019, the death rate from breast cancer dropped by an impressive 42%.
“The funds that are raised by the American Cancer Society help people now and generations in the future,”
said Justin Desavino, director of Development at the American Cancer Society. These funds are a lifeline for countless individuals and families facing the challenges of breast cancer.
Roadway Moving, Official Transportation Partner
Making Strides has always been more than just a walk; it’s a movement—a movement that seeks to make the future free from breast cancer. And it’s a movement that brings together individuals and organizations committed to this cause.
That is why for the past five years Roadway Moving supported the American Cancer Society, as Official Moving and Storage Partner of the event, symbolizing the strength and determination that fuels this crucial cause.
Walking hand in hand with survivors and supporters alike, we marched to honor the heroines who have battled or are battling cancer, their courage lighting the way for millions around the world. The message is clear: together, we defy fear, and together, we move towards a future without breast cancer.
Amidst the seriousness of the cause, the event is also a moment of celebration of life, courage, and strength. For this reason, we also wanted to bring joy and happiness. Prizes and rewards were given away, but the most precious reward was the smiles on the faces of the attendees. Witnessing the strength of those fighting this disease and the courage to stand tall and say, “No, I don’t give up; I will survive,” was a testament to the indomitable human spirit. These are not just survivors; they are warriors, refusing to let cancer break them.
Your stories, our inspiration
“We are here for the stories – the stories of survivors, the stories of fighters,” declared the organizers. It’s these stories that drive us, that motivate us to give voice to the cause, and ultimately, find a cure. Every individual’s journey, every survivor’s story contributes to the collective journey towards a breast cancer-free future.
And marching alongside these brave individuals, with their stories and their strength, is a boundless source of inspiration, not just for us but for the entire world. Their resilience and determination remind us that no challenge is insurmountable.
Next stop: Making the Strides of the Bay Area
For this reason, the fight against breast cancer will not stop us here. Roadway Moving’s support to The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer movement continues, and the next stop is San Francisco for the Making Strides of the Bay Area event on Sunday, October 22nd, at Crissy Field.
We are with you in this cause, every step of the way. Always remember, you are brave. You are strong. You are beautiful. And together, we’ve got this!
